°µÍø½ûÇø’s Women’s Leadership Council is honored to host Dorri McWhorter, president and CEO of YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, as the special guest speaker for the Council’s annual holiday luncheon on Thursday, December 1.

Seventeen °µÍø½ûÇø students have been selected for the newest cohort of Travis Scholars — a program founded in 2013 by the Mittie, Moselynne and Dempsey J. Travis Foundation. This enrichment program provides financial assistance to new and continuing students residing in the city of Chicago — fostering their academic achievement and commitment to social justice.

°µÍø½ûÇø’s Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is pleased to announce its partnership with The Newberry Consort as an Ensemble-in-Residence. This partnership will bring The Newberry Consort into CCPA on a regular basis, sharing their rehearsals and performances with students to provide experienced professional members’ presence throughout their residences.

The Office of the Provost is excited to announce that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded °µÍø½ûÇø (RU) a 3 year grant to establish the °µÍø½ûÇø Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success (RUCEVSS).

Barbara Young ('93) was named regional 2022 Teacher of the Year for Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI). Teacher of the Year honors outstanding, innovative educators who lead by example with an unmatched level of dedication to supporting all students.

The SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) awarded a 2021-2022 Outstanding Student Chapter Award designation to the °µÍø½ûÇø SHRM Student Chapter for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student members.

°µÍø½ûÇø received a gift of nearly $300,000 from the estate of Shelby J. Pera, a 1962 alumna of the Chicago College of Performing Arts — formerly the Chicago Musical College.

The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that $52 million was allocated to nearly 200 high education institutions through the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Program. The Office of the Provost is delighted to publicize that °µÍø½ûÇø (RU) was among those schools, receiving another five years of funding to support RU students.

President Emeritus Theodore "Ted" Gross (1988-2002) passed away at his home in Evanston, Illinois, on August 16, 2022.

An anonymous $1 million contribution will expand °µÍø½ûÇø’s women’s leadership initiatives — developing additional career-oriented opportunities for women-identifying students and community members.

°µÍø½ûÇø is taking the first steps in applying for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II membership, announcing it has been approved for provisional membership by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), an active NCAA Division II league.

On June 23, °µÍø½ûÇø officially recognized the retirement of three life-trustees at its annual Board of Trustees Dinner. The event was co-hosted by board chair Maurice Smith — a 1995 °µÍø½ûÇø alumnus, and president and CEO of Health Care Service Corporation — and University president Ali Malekzadeh at the Fairmont Chicago.
